As we enter our 10th year in 2017, we remain committed to our mission. Our goals are:

  1. To provide a supportive atmosphere in which young female musicians hone their musical skills
  2. To encourage friendships among young female musicians
  3. To foster enhanced self esteem and confidence

Our 2018 Faculty, Interns & Staff:  Janice Maxie-Reid, Lizzy Asarnow  (vocals, piano),  Jessica Neighbor (vocals, performance practice),  Nancy Wenstrom, Marlina Teich (guitar, vocals), Erika Oba (piano, flute),  Susanne DiVincenzo (bass, strings),  Mad Duran, Kasey Knudsen, Glynnis McNamara, Gracie Creed  (woodwinds),  Jean Fineberg (woodwinds, drums),  Ellen Seeling, Marina Garza, Tiffany Carrico (brass), Daria Johnson (drums, percussion),  Karla Gomez (spoken word poetry, operations), Laurie Silverman (operations)

The Camp employs an all-woman faculty of professional musicians and educators from the Montclair Women’s Big Band and the Jazzschool. Our interns are college music students and recent college graduates, who provide additional role models.

We accept all instrumentalists and girls who want to sing. The only prerequisite is some facility on the instrument; vocalists do not need experience. Campers bring their own instruments. We provide drums, vibes, amps, pianos, and microphones. Scheduling permitting, we make our best effort to accommodate those who wish to play more than one instrument.

All campers play or sing in a Jazz group, Latin Ensemble and/or a Blues/Funk group. Additional electives include Percussion Ensemble, Roots Music Choir and hands-on improvisation workshops at various levels. The lunchtime break features a faculty-facilitated open jam session and one private lesson during the week. Campers can bring lunch, patronize the onsite Jazzcaffe, or walk to one of the many inexpensive eateries within a few blocks of the Jazzschool.
